Native Seed Collecting Time

We are collecting seeds at Xwaaqw’um. The weather is perfect, the seeds are ripe and the race is on to collect seed to spread on our new wetlands this fall. Each morning staff and volunteers are meeting at 8am - 10 am at Wetland 1 to collect seeds in paper bags. Native sedges, rushes and grasses are plentiful right now and some flowering plants are sharing their abundance with us too.

Native plant seeds are dear and very expensive to buy. We have secured a large amount of native wetland seeds from Satinflower Nurseries for use in the 4 ha of restoration work we have planned for this autumn. Many seeds are needed to cover the ground and prevent invasive species from taking over.
