Winter Fish Monitoring

Stqeeye’ Land Stewards are conducting fish monitoring at Xwaaqw’um this week. This is the first juvenile fish survey conducted since 2020 in the streams and creeks of Xwaaqw’um and we are excited to see what we find. Guided by Redd Fish Restoration and skilled volunteers, Stqeeye’ staff are conducting minnow trapping overnight at ten locations in the stream systems. Please do not disturb the traps or remove them as young fish could be trapped inside and need constant cool water around them. Stqeeye’ operates with BC and federal government regulations and permits, and must follow the sampling protocol, so please do not attempt to help. Only folks listed on the permits may handle the traps and fish. Huy ch q’u
